Welcome, Fellow Heathens!
Good afternoon all, and welcome to The Eefelt's Guide to Plautdietsch! For those of you who don't know (and I'm assuming that would be anyone and everyone who ever happens to stumble upon this blog), Plautdietsch, also known as Low-German, is the nearly-lost language of the Mennonite people. There aren't that many people who speak it anymore. Even though I am an umpteenth-generation Mennonite, I didn't even learn the very common High-German, let alone the sacred language of Low-German. This blog is my attempt to rectify that--well, okay, it's more like a chance for me to learn cool words, like "eefelt". But together, we will learn the language of our ancestors and return to our more pious roots. I'll have some links up soon, as well as a Word of the Day Feature (which will probably descend quite quickly into a Word of the Week Feature, but I'll be optomistic). I hope we'll all enjoy our journey on this linguistic pilgrimmage.
